What first began in 1989 as a small gathering of people rallying around their friend to prevent him from succumbing to an overdose has become today Oum El Nour, a non-profit Non-Governmental Organization known for its work on the rehabilitation of drug addicts and on prevention programs. To this day, the organization has helped more than 4000 patients, most of whom lead fulfilling and enriching lives.

VISION Oum el Nour perceives drug addiction as an extensive problem and strives to set up programs to welcome, guide, rehabilitate and follow up on drug addicts. In addition to prevention programs, it works on building a skilled staff and applying the latest scientific tools and methods.
This is achieved through a genuine spirit of interaction, communication, and sharing with all parties concerned on both the regional and international levels.

OUR PROGRAMS In accordance with its mission and its vision aiming to tackle the problem of addiction as a whole, Oum El Nour implements the following programs:
Treatmen Program
Reception Center
The program provides information, offers individual and family counseling and orientation, performs bio-psycho-social assessment, conducts screening and admits patients into treatment. This is achieved through an available hotline, private and confidential interviews, and visits to hospitals and prisons.
Rehabilitation Centers
Treatment does not only aim to help the patient achieve lasting abstinence, but also to improve his/her ability to function, to minimize the medical and social complications of drug abuse, and to re-enter mainstream society.
Through a 4-stage inpatient program (12-15 months), the patient is offered bio-psycho-social support, with the help of group therapy, individual follow-up, and gradual social reintegration.
Oum El Nour offers a 36-bed capacity rehabilitation center in Fatka for women and a 60-bed capacity rehabilitation center in Shaileh for men.
Outpatient Follow-Up Center
These services ensure social reintegration and prevent relapses, by offering both individual follow-up and support groups.
Parents’ Guidance Center
The goal of this program is to offer support for family members, exchange experiences among families and clarify the real problem and the treatment approach; thus establishing clear relations between family members through support groups and home visits.
PREVENTION PROGRAM The program aims to enhance social awareness and involvement, to disseminate appropriate information on substance abuse, to conduct training for professionals and to design and implement prevention activities. This is achieved through information, education, and development strategies, through partnerships with national and international organizations.
TEAM Oum El Nour has a multidisciplinary team composed of 56 members including counselors, psychologists, social workers, socio-cultural workers, psychotherapists, recreation therapists, ex-drug addicts, medical doctors and lawyers.
